Don't mention it at the interview: forbidden topics

The interview is a crucial stage of the job search. It is based on its results that the decision to hire or refuse a job is mostly made. In one of our previous publications, we discussed useful tips on how to prepare for an interview together with LLC «BinomCraft» specialists. Today, we will discuss what topics should be avoided during the interview in order not to make a bad impression and not to lose your chances of getting the job you want.

Negative feedback about previous jobs

You should not tell the representative of the company you intend to work for about your negative experience in other companies or organisations, about a bad boss or conflicts with colleagues. Such information will never show your best side at an interview, even if there was a situation in which you were a victim and your boss was a real tyrant.

However, in most companies, recruiters have a very negative perception of this information. It can give the impression that you are a conflicted employee, which is likely to be a reason for rejection.

Point out how to improve the company's performance

During the interview, you should not express your ideas and suggestions on what the company can do and how it can already improve. Of course, if you have opinions about what the company should do to improve its performance, you can say so at the interview. However, you should voice them (or not) only after you have learned about the situation in the company from the inside. After all, you do not yet have enough information about why the company conducts a process in a certain way and not otherwise, LLC «BinomCraft» experts noted.

On the other hand, you should not ask about what the company does. If you ask such questions, it shows that you have not prepared for the meeting. The recruiter may even get the impression that you applied for the position by accident.

Avoid controversial topics
You should not discuss politics, religion, social conflicts, sexual minorities or any other sensitive topics during the interview. As many people as there are opinions. Your interviewer or company may have an opposing view.
An interview is not the time for the personal
We do not recommend talking about personal matters during the interview. Discuss everything that concerns your private life with your family and friends. There is also no need to describe in detail your life story - from birth to the present. If you think that this is self-presentation, you are mistaken. During the interview, try to attract the interviewer's attention with what you know and those topics in which you feel insecure.

The LLC «BinomCraft» experts reminded us that during the interview, it is very important not only to demonstrate that you are worthy of working in this company, but also that you have your own values, interests, and beliefs.
